Care for Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease of the central nervous system. It is an unpredictable condition. Some people with MS may be mildly affected while others may lose their ability to write, speak or walk. This occurs when communication between the brain and other parts of the body becomes disrupted.

At Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network’s MS Center we will help you learn to control your MS. We have many free educational resources to help you learn more about living with MS, including:

  • seminars that focus on issues specific to men and women
  • injectable therapy workshops
  • annual seminars for patients and families
  • lunch and learn sessions where we discuss the latest MS treatments and medications

Diagnosis

We offer several tests to diagnose multiple sclerosis. Our experienced staff uses state-of-the-art equipment for all of these tests:

Treatment

Our specialists will help you control MS, not just mask the symptoms. Currently, there are four FDA-approved medications useful in preventing MS attacks and possibly slowing the progression of disability. They are Avonax, Betaseron, Copoxane and Rebif.

While medications may be an important part of your MS treatment, we understand successful management of MS involves more than medication. That’s why we have several programs available to address your other needs associated with MS. Those programs include:

  • Rehabilitation
  • Psychiatric Care
  • Counseling
  • Specialty Therapies
  • Pain Management
  • Exercise Program
  • Continence Specialist
  • Gynecologic Services
